There are no trees where the flight path of the plane went overhead, for it is where the memorial overlook and visitor center are located. Additionally, there are no trees where the plane crashed. The circle is symbolically “broken” with two missing trees to honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93.

Also, a black slate wall marks the edge of the crash site, where the victims are buried. Surrounding the Memorial Plaza is a wildflower meadow. It represents a beautiful place of healing and renewal, bringing color and life to a once destroyed land.
